The Battle Cancer Program is a 12-week group functional fitness Program, specifically tailored for individuals who are late-stage Cancer rehab. The Battle Cancer Program Certification, which officially launched in early 2023 and co-created with CAWS, is the brainchild of Battle Cancer founder Scott Britton, and was devised for Personal Trainers to work with individuals after their Cancer treatment. The Certification teaches trainers and coaches the essentials of late-stage Cancer rehabilitation and the specifics of the Battle Cancer Program.
The Program is perfect for Fusion members at these facilities who have experienced Cancer, or members of the local community living near to any participating venue who may never have used the gym before and are recovering from Cancer.
Mel Spooner, CAWS Managing Partner, explains: “The Battle Cancer Program has been specifically designed for Coaches to adapt programming as required to match the needs of every client in each group. Whether they each trained regularly prior to diagnosis, or whether joining the Program was their first step to enter the gym.
“There are members in gym facilities worldwide who are struggling with post-Cancer related fatigue (CRF), and other physical limitations brought on by Cancer treatment. There are also local people across communities who are seeking help with their recovery after treatment and have never used a gym before. The most proven way to help is through activity and exercise, but many people wouldn’t think to ask the gym for support. It’s up to facilities to drive awareness rather than the population to make the connection themselves. The work of Club Partners like Fusion means that together we can spread the word about local help that is available, the role of activity in recovery from Cancer and lose the stigma associated with rebuilding health and fitness after a cancer diagnosis.”
Gareth Heard, Fusion’s Group Sport & Community Development Manager, explained: “We are committed to supporting the communities in which we operate and constantly look to invest in programmes, projects, and interventions to help local people. We are really looking forward to introducing the Battle Cancer Programme into our centres to help improve the physical and mental wellbeing of the participants.”
